Wherever you plan on going and whatever you plan on doing, it’s important to have a plan. Part of a good plan means being prepared not just for what you’ll encounter but actually leaving the home safe and sound. Listed below are just a few tips to help you prepare for the trip.
1. Do something about the dog. Or cat, we’re all inclusive here. Just make sure someone is taking care of your pet while you’re away. Try a kennel or boarding service and be sure to arrange with one before you get too close to Christmas or any of the major travel days. It would also be prudent to visit this kennel in person first.
2. Have the mail halted or arrange to have a neighbor pick it up for you. Letting that stuff pile up while you are away is pretty much like handing the keys to the castle over to the burglars.
3. Have you arranged to have the neighbor come over and water your plants or feed the pet? Don’t leave a key for them out in the yard somewhere – that’s the first place criminals will search. Instead, arrange all this with a neighbor in person and personally hand over the keys.
And while not necessarily a prep tip, it requires mentioning – home security. You’re going on vacation. You want to be able to focus on that and not whether or not the home is safe. A home security system can help give you peace of mind. I happen to have one through a site called www.quortek.com, but there are plenty out there to choose from so shop around.
